The Rinnegan (輪廻眼, lit. Saṃsāra Eye) is a rare kekkei genkai dojutsu that manifests in select people. It is considered the most exalted eye among the "Three Great Dōjutsu" (三大瞳術, Sandai Doujutsu), the other two being the Sharingan and the Byakugan. It is said that in times of disorder, one who wields the Rinnegan is sent down from the heavens to become either a "God of Creation" who will calm the world or a "God of Destruction" who will reduce everything to nothingness.

The Rinnegan is characterized by a ripple pattern that spreads over the eyeball. It is typically purple in color, however, there have been cases where it has been other colors such as red, yellow, and blue.
Abilities[]
Six Paths Jutsu[]
The Rinnegan provides the user access to seven abilities known as the Six Paths Jutsu:
- Deva Path - control over attractive and repulsive forces
- Asura Path - mechanization of the user's limbs
- Human Path - extraction of souls
- Animal Path - summoning of various creatures
- Preta Path - chakra absorption
- Naraka Path - access to the King of Hell
- Outer Path - control over life and death
The Outer Path also allows the user to revive the dead, as well as transmit their chakra into black receivers, manifest chakra chains that are able to bind anyone they touch, and control six bodies with black receivers know as the Six Paths of Pain. The Six Paths of Pain all share their field of vision with the Rinnegan user, and posses copies of Rinnegan in their own eyes.
Infinite Tsukuyomi[]
When a Rinnegan user near the moon, the Rinne Sharingan will awaken in their forehead and they can cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi, which encases everyone under the moon's light in a genjutsu. The Rinnegan is conversely capable of repelling the light and, when used with Susanoo, can prevent others from succumbing to the genjutsu's effect. To end the jutsu, the wielder must form the Rat hand seal with someone who posses the chakra of all the tailed beasts.
The Rinnegan is also used to become the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki.
The Rinnegan appears to give each individual user unique abilities. Sasuke's Rinnegan allows him to switch places with an object or person within a certain range of himself, as well as create portals to other dimensions. He's stated his rinnegan also has several sciences, including pattern recognition. Momoshiki is able to absorb any ninjutsu or chakra with his right hand's Rinnegan and deliver an amplified version using his left hand's Rinnegan. Urashiki's blue Rinnegan allows him to transport himself into the past to redo events.
