Rivals, Gather! is the fifty-sixth episode of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.

Team 7 heads to the Chūnin Exams opening ceremony where Shikamaru explains the details of the exam. While eating at Thunder Burger before the first test, Boruto has a run-in with Yurui which is soon stopped by Shinki, Gaara's adopted son.
After heading back, Sai explains that the first test is a true or false quiz before taking it, they have to get the testing site 20 kilometres away in one hour, for which the clock has already started. The route forward is laid with traps set by Tenten, which take out most of the participants. Team 7 makes it through the forest in time quickly taking out any obstacles in their way.
After arriving at the location of the True or False quiz, Sai gives them the question and the instructions to move to the side of "True" or "False", and provides an ominous warning: "If you go black you lose". After answering the question, both sides begin to fall into a pool of ink. Boruto is ready to give up but is saved by Sarada's quick thinking and Mitsuki's abilities. Everyone who was able to save themselves from falling into the ink answered the question correctly and move on to the next round. Boruto feels guilty that he couldn't bring himself to do anything and begins contemplating using the Scientific Ninja Tool. Shikamaru tells Naruto that both their sons passed the first round, and Naruto later sends Boruto and e-mail congratulating him.
