A visibly sick Naruto Uzumaki tried to stop Sasuke Uchiha from leaving the village, but is ultimately ignored. After arriving in the Land of Redaku, Sasuke asks the villagers about the Sage of Six Paths, but is discourage after finding that not even the elders now about the Sage. From the distance, a woman overheard the conversation and followed Sasuke to an alley. He confronted her, but she revealed that her mother owned an antique shop and suggested Sasuke to ask her. After introducing herself, Lyla and Sasuke witnessed a theft coming from the antique shop. Sasuke apprehends the thieves using Amenotejikara and bounds them with genjutsu. Lyla and the thieves are bewildered by Sasuke's abilities, but Kail said that he must be a shinobi, despite never seen one herself. The thieves are taken by authorities to Redaku's prison located in the Astronomy Institute. Kail was able to find the object she had been looking for after the thieves where captured.
In the antique shop, Sasuke took notice of the ring. Noticing this, when Kail turned to Sasuke, she thought that he intended to propose to Lyla, but Sasuke revealed that he had a wife and a daughter of his own. He continued by asking about the Sage of Six Paths and explained that his friend is suffering from a similar illness. Despite not knowing about diseases herself, Kail said that the Astronomy Institute is connected to the Sage; and Sasuke questioned how to get there.
Two weeks after being captured, the thieves continued their work in the Astronomy Institute by digging the soil with picks. During their lunch break, they spotted Sasuke among the new prisoners entering that day and they attacked him. Sasuke easily dodged a fork thrown in his direction, but the missing target caused an even bigger fight among the prisoners, who ended being defeated by Sasuke. The guards attempted to punish Sasuke for the scene but the Director, Zansūru, claimed Sasuke was only defending himself. One of the thieves approached Sasuke the next morning during breakfast and suggested that they escape together since he also had some control over chakra. He continued by saying that the morning mist would make it easier to escape from Menō. However, Sasuke declined and explained that he had something to do inside the prison. The thief decided to escape on his own. When Sasuke and the rest of prisoners prepared to dig for the day, they saw Menō eating the prisoner's body.
