Smaller and More Useful (小さくて、便利, Chīsakute, Benri) is the 72nd chapter of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
Summary[]
Kawaki emphasizes to Shikamaru that he doesn't know anything about Amado's objectives, especially with Amado restoring his Karma without their notice. He believes that Amado's motives no longer matter since he thinks Code killed him, which Naruto then admonishes after he starts diminishing Shikamaru over his value. A shinobi then enters the room informing Shikamaru of an urgent phone call from Amado in the outskirts of the Land of Snow at a train station, accompanied by Eida and Daemon three to four days away from Konoha. Shikamaru asks about Code, in which Amado replies he simply talked to Eida after being captured, severing her ties with Code, no longer allying herself with Code, convincing her to side with Konoha and accepting Shikamaru's proposition. Shikamaru is then concerned about Code's other ally, Daemon, but Amado explains who Daemon is. Shikamaru then accuses Amado of not having the authority to make such deals until Amado claims that Eida's authority is final and that the two siblings aren't enemies he wants to have. He also reveals that he rescinded Code's limiters but assures that having Eida & Daemon on their side is a good thing to have in their favor and that Shikamaru knows how to use game pieces. Shikamaru tells them there will be questions when they arrive to Konoha, and they both hang up. Eida is displeased towards Amado calling her & Daemon game pieces, but he defends himself saying figures of speech are effective with Shikamaru. Eida then warns Amado to use his cleverness to help be with Kawaki or she'll kill him out of spite, especially since she's already irritated enough by Amado for giving her the ability to enchant the entire human race. Daemon though abruptly says he'll be the one doing the killing. Shikamaru then puts out a call to summon Naruto and Team 7, including Kawaki, to the Hokage office.
At the Uzumaki residence, Boruto is putting on his clothes to head towards the Hokage office for his summoning, as he observes the new mark on his chest. As he is about to head out, Hinata comes and confirms with Boruto that he has a new mission. Boruto then turns around and witnesses her crying, thinking that he won't be coming back home this time after learning of his recent death, while Himawari is around the corner watching & listening in. Boruto apologizes to her, promising he'll come back, having done so even after he died the first time, and heads out. Outside on his way, Momoshiki manifests before Boruto. He calls Boruto out for making a promise to his mother he cannot keep. Boruto, calling him a free-loader, asks why he's still around even though he can't resurrect anymore. Momoshiki then asks Boruto in return why he is still clinging to a meaningless existence with his fate rapidly approaching, reminding Boruto of his previous warning by him. Momoshiki claims that his fate of him losing everything will make him fall into despair and lose his will to live, and that wanting to escape from reality within the corner of his mind for all eternity, will be enough for him to take possession of Boruto's body. He states he doesn't care about resurrection anymore as the next time he possesses Boruto will yield the same result. He also, outright, tells Boruto that he was meant & always will be his precious vessel as he is the perfect vessel and that no one can have him, not letting him die ever again. Boruto, a bit frightened, shouts at Momoshiki vowing he will keep him shoved down and in despair, never letting him emerge ever again. But Momoshiki laughs it off saying that he's looking forward to it, as his manifestation dissipates. Sarada and Mitsuki arrive after, thinking Boruto is pumped for their new mission. Sarada finds Boruto's attitude strange while Mitsuki states that no matter what happens, Boruto will always be Boruto. Back at the Uzumaki house, after hearing of his brother's last events, Himawari is thinking about becoming a ninja to help protect Boruto and asks Hinata if it would make her more worried instead.
Meanwhile, Code brings Bug to the Ten-Tails' pen, explaining to him what the place is. Code is concerned that while Sasuke can no longer get there since his Rinnegan is destroyed, Boruto and Kawaki, as full Ōtsutsuki, will be able to since they've inherited the powers from their respected Ōtsutsuki counterparts within their Karma and might soon master the Space-Time Ninjutsu. Bug then asks his plan, as even at full strength, he wasn't able to defeat Daemon, and lost Eida as an ally. Code admits he was outclassed by Daemon, which is why Bug attempted to stop him from waking Daemon up. Code feels it's no use obsessing over the past and things are actually okay. He then proceeds to adjust the Ten-Tails into a more manageable size, covering it with several of his Claw Marks, being able to create a lot more at once with his full power. Code claims he'll make the Ten-Tails smaller and more useful, moulding it like clay. As it gets smaller & smaller, tailed humanoid creatures are created with Code's Claw Marks and are able to use them to travel.
