Tenten (テンテン, Tenten) is a kunoichi of Konohagakure. She currently works as a Chūnin Exams Proctor, as well as owning Ninja Tools Tententen. Together with Rock Lee and Neji Hyūga, she is a former member of Team Guy.
Background[]
Early Life[]
Since she was a student in the Academy, Tenten admired Tsunade and aspired to become a legendary kunoichi like the Sannin. After graduating, she was assigned to Team Guy, alongside Rock Lee and Neji Hyūga.
Tenten's team decided to skip their generation's Chūnin Exams, and participated in the next year's examination alongside the Rookie 9 where she lost the promotion opportunity due to her defeat against Temari.
Two years later, she became a chūnin and was assigned to missions alongside her teammates. Tenten would later participate in the Fourth Shinobi World War, where she obtained the Treasured Tools of the Sage of Six Paths. During the last confrontation, she mourned the death of her friend Neji.
After the war, she would work as an active kunoichi for the village and she also attended Naruto and Hinata's wedding.
Personality[]
Tenten is depicted as naturally curious and observant person, with a strong will to become a legendary kunoichi like her role model, Tsunade. This has led to her to become strongly vocal about women, defending that girls can be just as skilled as boys in taijutsu when Neji thought otherwise. Tenten expresses a great aversion for weakness or being dependent on other people. Despite her goal to become strong, Tenten enjoys her free days and finds it meaningless to continue training when she's tired; as well as disliking travelling for whole days[1]. Though she can be very fierce, Tenten is kind and caring toward others, comforting her friends when they are going through a hard time[2][3].
However, Tenten is often frustrated around her overly eager teammates Rock Lee and Might Guy, and wishes they would behave more maturely; her Infinite Tsukuyomi dream depicts this. Despite this, she cares greatly about her team, helping to go save Lee during the Chūnin Exams when he didn't report back at their base. She also held great respect her other teammate Neji Hyūga and often helped him train.
As a ninja-tool user, Tenten collects every ninja tool from all over the world as a hobby. Moreover, her hobby developed so much that she even opened a full-fledged ninja tool shop[4]. She also seems to be fascinated in ghosts and supernatural things[5].
Appearance[]
Tenten has brown hair and brown eyes. She wears her hair in two braided buns on her head with short bangs covering her forehead.
Tenten's outfits serve as a reference to Chinese culture since she was young. She wears a white quipao shirt with long sleeves and red edges, a pair or loose pink pants that reach below her knees and red sandals. She also wears dangling earrings.
Abilities[]
Tenten excels in weaponry and her skills are held in high regard by her team. By Part II, she is promoted to chūnin and, alongside her team, she is able to pressure Kisame Hoshigaki, a member of the Akatsuki[6]. As an adult, Tenten is considered Konoha's top weapon user and a kunoichi who excelled at space–time ninjutsu[7], which she uses to summon puppets equipped with kunai guns[8].
Bukijutsu[]
Tenten is able to wield a variety of weapons with great proficiency and she has excellent aim. She could effectively wield a weapon that she had no prior knowledge on, like the Bashōsen[9].
Fūinjutsu[]

Tenten is very proficient in fūinjutsu. Her style consists in storing several of her weapons inside scrolls, which she can later summon or unseal to attack her enemies with an arsenal. She can also stick explosive tags to those weapons to increase their power, as well as add wire strings to guide their trajectory[10].
New Era[]
Many years after the Fourth Shinobi World War, Tenten opened her own weapons shop in Konohagakure, motivated by her hobby of collecting ninja tools, although it's normally empty due to the peaceful times . In her store, she displayed the Treasured Tools of the Sage of Six Paths that she obtained during the conflict with a sign that said "not for sale"[4]. She also became a proctor for the Chūnin Exams[11].
Konoha Shinden: Steam Ninja Scrolls[]
When Tenten was told that Mirai Sarutobi hadn't packed enough ninja tools for her escort mission in Yugakure, she was assigned with a delivery mission to send supplementary equipment. When she arrived two days later, she delivered the tools and decided to take the day off to enjoy the hot springs with Mirai and together talk about a ghost haunting the local inn. Tenten teased Guy about his fear of ghosts, but, excited about the tale herself, she decided to help with the investigations about the sightings. They discovered that there wasn't a ghost haunting the inn, but an orphaned young girl, Tatsumi, who was determined to visit every hot spring in the country in memory of her mother and was stealing small bites of food to survive. Mirai asked her team if Tatsumi could join their trip, to which they agree. Tenten later returned to Konoha.
Naruto Shinden: Parent and Child Day[]

During the new Konohagakure holiday, Parent and Child Day, Naruto and Himawari entered Tenten's weapon shop to continue their search of a Kurama toy. Tenten greeted them with excitement but is unable to help them. Instead, she offers them a set of makeshift kunai and a necklace related to the new holiday. She manipulated Naruto with a persuasive tactic of getting emotional at the thought of needing to close her business due to lack of sales, and he ended buying the necklace for Himawari.
Versus Momoshiki Arc[]
In the anime, the participants of the Chūnin Exams needed to reach the ending field within a limited amount of time in order to answer the truth or false question. Tenten was tasked with reducing the amount of genin by setting traps and summoning puppets. Later, she proctored the second stage of the exam with Shino Aburame from the monitoring room. She praised Boruto Uzumaki after he defeated the Three Senka Brothers.
Time Slip Arc[]
In the anime, when Urashiki Ōtsutsuki was detected around Konoha, Tenten and other shinobi chased him. However, it was a trap by the enemy, who performed genjutsu on them to have easy access into the village. During this time, past-Tenten and her friends helped Boruto clean the bathhouse where Naruto and Jiraiya had caused trouble.
Months later, while Himawari was around Konoha wondering which job she could choose for her career, she saw Tenten sleeping inside her shop due to the low sales.
Ao Arc[]
In the anime, Tenten attended the memorial service for the fallen people of the Fourth Shinobi World War.
Kawaki Arc[]
In the anime, Tenten participated in the coordination teams planned by Shikamaru in preparation for Isshiki's invasion. She was one of the first units to fight the enemy after his arrival, but she was quickly defeated.
